ᐅ Which garden fence provides privacy screening?

Hello

We have purchased a semi-detached house.

After completion, we want to install a fence around our garden (we hope to have friendly neighbors who will share the costs).

We need about 55m (180 feet) of fencing.

We want the entire fence to have privacy screening and be between 1.6 and 1.8m (5.2 and 5.9 feet) high (this is legally allowed in our area).

Which type of fence would you recommend? We had thought about the standard welded wire mesh fence panels, but the privacy strips for these are quite expensive.

Is there a more affordable option, possibly with a different type of fence?

Requirements for the fence:

No maintenance (so no wood)
Privacy screening
Height between 1.6 and 1.8m (5.2 and 5.9 feet)
Must go all the way to the ground (to prevent our dog, including puppies, from escaping)

Thank you very much for your help

Good grief. How can that possibly fit together?
It's like the idea of a minimalist garden with an unobstructed view of a plastic industrial woven fence.

On the left and right are the neighbors right next door, and straight ahead there is a garden plot adjoining us. They have those ugly red plant containers filled with weeds on our side.

We just want peace and quiet and not to be constantly drawn into conversations with neighbors in the garden or to be watched.

There are also privacy screen strips available with patterns.

It should be clear what you want. Compare prices and check with your neighbors if they are willing to share the costs.
As a neighbor, I wouldn’t be happy and wouldn’t contribute. That doesn’t mean I want to have constant conversations or be nosy. I just don’t like the appearance.
Remember, it’s only a privacy screen, not a sound barrier. Your dog will still be aware of what’s happening beyond the fence.

These slats are mostly really ugly. A view of plastic – a matter of personal taste. Use the fence together with a beech hedge or let it grow over naturally in another way.

Whether you are outgoing people or simply prefer to have nothing to do with the neighbors (which you at least express with the fence) is up to you. You can also enjoy your privacy without visual barriers—at least when it comes to conversations. Noise from next door, however, won’t be stopped by that.
And honestly, 99% of neighbors have better things to do than watch you 😉

The privacy screen definitely has to go all the way to the ground, so our dog doesn’t notice what’s happening in the neighbor’s garden, for example when children are playing ball or if another dog is in their garden.

That is your request! Here, besides the neighborhood laws, it is still valid that whoever wants something and benefits from it, and thus has a demanding claim, is the one who pays for it.

Because of the dog.
Just as an example: here it is mandatory to fence to the right if the neighbor wants it (Lower Saxony). But if a dog is involved, the fence covers everything, also on the left side (even though the left neighbor would be obliged to fence on the right), because the dog’s interest has greater weight.
This is based on the unwritten rule that whoever wants something pays for it, and under their conditions.

For us, a privacy screen means privacy (no, we don’t walk around naked in the garden).

I do, see photo.

We don’t want a wall of flowers.

???? What does that mean?

Neighbors are immediately on the left and right.

That’s just how plots of land are.

Maybe an apartment in an attic would suit you better?
Why would people watch you? Paranoia? Victims of stalking?
You are certainly not the center of the universe.

Read it! Reading educates.

If you were my neighbor, I’d simply protect myself from your privacy screen with a hedge.

Garden with two gray lounge chairs on grass, behind a hedge.
