ᐅ Take old/previous furniture to the new house or start completely fresh?

When I see photos of interior furnishings of houses here in the forum, I often get the impression, "Oh, everything looks so nice and new." Does anyone also bring old/previous furniture with them, or is almost everything replaced? My husband and I will be taking all our old/previous furniture with us. Is that still common nowadays, or is it considered strange in some way?

nordanney16 Jun 2021 08:30I’d like to suggest "new" used furniture. I know several people in my circle who have bought expensive (and like-new) brand-name furniture second-hand. They sell for a fraction of the retail price. And once in the apartment or house, you can’t tell the difference compared to new furniture from the store.
I plan to try this myself when moving—items that you might usually hesitate to buy second-hand.

I can only recommend it anyway and will continue doing it this way in the house. If I could do as I pleased ;-) ... I would do exactly the same. :-) I can only secretly remove a little here and there and hope that the absence goes unnoticed. ;-) So far it has worked, and according to my personal values, it is justified. ;-)nordanney schrieb:

I plan to try this when I move—items that you might otherwise be too frugal to buy new. Absolutely. Almost everything we have was bought secondhand. Nobody notices, and we save money.

I hope it shows in my furniture. After all, they have stories to tell. Agreed! In our "entry laundry room," we have an approximately 50-year-old Eames Compact Sofa with its original leather upholstery and slightly worn rosewood. It has a few stories to tell and brings us joy. For comfortable gatherings, we purchased a Maralunga sofa in our preferred upholstery. It has been continuously offered since 1974. You can also find used ones in good condition with over 30 years of use on the cushions. We hope to enjoy our purchase for many decades to come.
