Is it advisable to hire an independent expert for individual construction phases, even though the architect in charge of the planning is also responsible for site management and the project is tendered in individual contracts? Shouldn't the architect actually cover the tasks of the expert?

It makes sense if you need it for your peace of mind. Usually, you don’t need it because the architect is already your local contact.

Assuming that you are the client of the architect and not a contracted construction company or the architect acting as the general contractor

Yes, I am the client of the architect. Not a general contractor or anything similar

Then I would ask the architect whether it would be advisable to involve a specialized expert for certain trades. Some architects do have areas of expertise. For example, someone might be less knowledgeable in building services, and in that case, it could definitely make sense to bring in an expert just for that part of the construction.

If the architect is a full-time artist who never shows up on the construction site, I would want to add that (or assign site supervision, one of the most expensive project phases, to someone else). We also built with architects; it was a two-person team. One was more of an artist, the other a civil engineer. One of them visited the site daily.
