Hello,

who doesn’t have a splash guard above their countertop? For us, for aesthetic reasons, there is only a splash guard planned above/behind the stove; above/behind the sink there is a window. Otherwise, there is just a wipe strip, and above that, the wall is wallpapered with fleece and painted.
I’m wondering: do people regret that? Or is it better to just try it out and possibly add a splash guard later?
To those who don’t have any: does your wall still look okay? And to those who, for example, have painted with a thick protective paint (elephant skin): how does that look (compared to regular paint)? We have an open kitchen and I can’t really imagine where you would make a transition…

Thanks for your experiences and recommendations!

Completely without a splash guard. Even behind the stove there is only a wall painted white (with fleece underneath). However, the countertop is 10cm (4 inches) deeper, so almost nothing reaches the wall. I will do the same in the next house. The wall still looks great after four years.

Uh no. We had painted the wall with mineral paint, which is washable and scrub-resistant. After almost two years, we installed a glass splash guard.

We didn’t have a splash guard behind the sink. Our window is positioned higher than the countertop. It quickly started to look unattractive, so now there is a splash guard installed. For aesthetic reasons, we have a glass splash guard behind the cooktop and one made from the same material as the cabinet fronts around the rest of the area. However, the splash guards are not very tall.

The same happened to us: around the sink area, the painted plaster looked spotty. Grease had soaked in. During the COVID period, I painted the wall section (tile backsplash size) with a stain blocker and repainted it with matte latex paint. I think this achieves the desired result.

Because we always eat in the cafeteria and go out on weekends. 😀
