Hello everyone,
we are about to complete the bathroom on the top floor of our new build. The pipes have already been installed going upwards. We have a laundry chute in that room. We would also like to install a shower, which would need to be positioned in a way that the laundry chute is integrated into it. Do you have any ideas on how to make the chute waterproof? Is this even possible?

Is this a new build planning?Oops... I completely overlooked that this is about a new build. This is about sensible initial planning, not about making poor compromises regarding running water and moisture! It is convenient to have the washing machine on the same level where the laundry is generated.
With a laundry chute, you only save yourself from carrying the laundry downstairs. You still have to walk down and carry it back up as well…
I would never put it in the shower. It will never remain watertight long-term. It also looks pretty unattractive.

Hello everyone!
Thank you for the many messages. I will send some pictures of the bathroom later. I would appreciate it if you could take another look then.
Regarding the laundry chute: For us, it is one of the best features you can plan in a house. I would rather give up the upstairs bathroom than the chute. Of course, having both would be ideal!
Unfortunately, the chute’s opening in the attic is a “minor” planning mistake (though the only one). The contractors were faster at that point, and we no longer had any say in the location of the opening. Now it would be great if we can still come up with an elegant solution despite this planning issue.
I will get back to you later! Thanks again.
