Hello dear house building forum community,
We are currently considering how large our shower should be. It will definitely be a tiled shower. Initially, we planned for 120cm x 90cm (47 inches x 35 inches). Now we are thinking about going for 120cm x 120cm (47 inches x 47 inches), as we would prefer a larger shower. Are there any experiences, suggestions, or criticism regarding the shower size?
The bathroom is 2.88m x 3.72m (9.4 ft x 12.2 ft) in size.

pagoni202016 May 2021 14:31If you want an open, walk-in shower, I would recommend a depth of around 140cm (55 inches) if possible, with a width of 90–100cm (35–39 inches).
A 120x120cm (47x47 inches) shower might already feel too large, similar to a swimming pool shower area, because there’s nothing around it or simply too much space. We’re using a width of 90cm (35 inches) at our place, with half-height masonry or tiling. The glass is mounted on the outside, which creates a supporting surface inside.
In my opinion, focusing more on the depth of the space rather than the width provides the real advantage.

We chose 100x120cm (39x47 inches) so that two people can shower comfortably without feeling cramped. For one person, the size is very comfortable.
I can’t say if having more depth would be an advantage; I don’t see a reason for it.
The bigger the shower, the more you need to consider the size and position of the fixtures. A huge shower with a 12.99 Ikea showerhead is pretty pointless. 😉
