We are interested in a house built in 2006 by local craftsmen who are still operating today.
The house has a square floor plan and a hipped roof. During an inspection of the attic, I made the following observation:
The two main posts are mounted on a piece of wood? Why is that? Does anyone have a theory? I didn’t want to ask the owner any "uncomfortable questions" since there are many interested buyers.
The house appears to have no defects and is overall in excellent condition.

Done a bit in an amateur way. Beams were cut too short or were not available in the required length. Adjusted with wood. Nobody will see it in the attic.

Is there no structural issue? After all, it has stood for 15 years.

Unfortunately, we need to decide quickly regarding the house. Other than that, I have checked everything else that is important and didn't find anything unusual.

In theory, this would probably be called poor workmanship, but in practice it seems to be quite common, and it happens repeatedly that parts of the roof structure are extended, patched, or otherwise modified. Since the house, built in 2006, appears to be well maintained and in excellent condition with no signs of resulting defects, you are likely buying a very good house with a flaw that, fortunately, is already known in the case of an existing property.

Holds well, but it's not very attractive.
