The kitchen certainly has enough space for some canned goods, so is a pantry really necessary?I keep wondering what people actually store in their kitchen cabinets. 🙂I also find the floor plan nicely simple and clear. I really like it. I am an admitted fan of gable roofs and would prefer to go with a gable roof instead of a hip roof. Especially since you can then install "real" windows on the gable ends.
Regarding the basement stairs, a rough idea: could the exterior stairs be enclosed and used as the only access to the basement? For this, the toilet and pantry would need to be rearranged to allow access from the hallway. If done elegantly, the main floor/upper floor staircase could be designed in a much more inviting (open) way.

Thanks for your effort 🙂 🙂 Do you maybe have any other good ideas like that? Glad to help, happy to provide you with ideas.
I also have one for the upper floor, but it’s a matter of personal taste. I always plan the way I would do it myself, and I like having a separate walk-in closet. I’m fond of T-shaped bathrooms with low-maintenance large showers, where you don’t have to wipe down the glass all the time. For four people, I also prefer the toilet to be hidden. The children’s rooms are best located on the south side, and for me, the bedroom should only have a north-facing window. It’s simply cooler in summer. The staircase is shifted slightly to the left in this layout (similar to my ground floor design). Also, one stair step is built over (which fits easily). The large unused area in the hallway is better utilized this way, in my opinion. If it’s a concern, a thicker or soundproof wall could be installed between the parents’ and children’s rooms.

I keep wondering what people actually store in their kitchen cabinets. 🙂I also wonder why most people seem so confused at the moment. It appears that the pantry is no longer used just for food storage, but for all electrical appliances, all groceries, every kind of drink, and some even put their refrigerator in there—the main fridge, mind you. If you have the space and the budget and need a showroom kitchen for whoever, go ahead! That’s your choice.People, why not just build without a kitchen, make the pantry really large so two people can be in there comfortably, and surely there’s room next to the sink for a (secondary) stove for the smelly frying stuff. Then just rename the pantry as the kitchen for those who don’t look closely. Hehe...
Normally, everything should fit in the kitchen. If not, the kitchen was either planned too small or isn’t organized properly. Items like a fondue set or popcorn maker can be taken from the storage room/laundry room/basement. And if you have little storage for drinks and recycling bags, and your floor plan doesn’t include a large freezer room but only two smaller utility rooms, then you just make one of them a pantry.
The canned goods can then be taken from the kitchen cabinet or the storage room.

Regarding the basement stairs, here’s a rough idea: could you enclose the outside stairs and use that as the only basement access? You’d need to rearrange the restroom and pantry a bit to get access from the hallway. If you manage that smoothly, you can make the ground floor/upper floor staircase much more inviting (open). That’s definitely a good idea too, but I can’t imagine it would be that simple.

We really like this upper floor idea as well and have often thought about how to deal with the unused corridor space. Then you come along with such a great suggestion. We also think the T-shaped bathroom is brilliant!!!
Thank you! 🙂
The only question we still have and need to decide on is whether to keep the pantry on the ground floor or not. I think that will depend on how the kitchen designer plans the kitchen, with or without access to the pantry. Because I believe the kitchen simply looks better without the pantry door. Whether that is practical, though, is another question.
