Hello forum community,
after our interior doors were delivered and installed, I am quite surprised to see that the latch/bolt is made of plastic. This seems to be standard with several general contractors, but it was not even part of the samples we reviewed. What is the advantage, apart from it looking cheap?

Go visit your grandmother again; they don’t have things like that made of plastic there.Hey... please, no discrimination... it was the same in my house too, and I still feel like a young guy. @micric3 in the end, it hardly matters. The door just needs to close.

I've never seen anything like that made of metal in a single-family house. We have this in matte black metal from the "One by Piet Boon" series. We had the door handle wrapped with smooth black leather and cross-stitched piping. There are all kinds of crazy things available if you look around. Nobody really needs them, but they bring joy.

We also have them in the house, never had them before.
With small children, they really have advantages because you have lockable toilets (at least in the guest WC, most will probably appreciate that) without the risk of a child locking themselves in and being unreachable.
Our eldest once locked herself in the bedroom; we hadn’t placed the key out of reach there, and then things got interesting... She stayed calm, and so did the parents more or less :p, so after a few attempts she was able to free herself. Otherwise, the door would have had to be removed. Our child could already unlock the lock cylinder from the outside with a wooden toy screwdriver at the age of two. You’re never really safe from them anywhere. 😉
