Hello forum community,
after our interior doors were delivered and installed, I am quite surprised to see that the latch/bolt is made of plastic. This seems to be standard with several general contractors, but it was not even part of the samples we reviewed. What is the advantage, apart from it looking cheap?

Alright, then this seems to be the current standard. Inner peace is restored.
I just noticed that the door handles are easier to operate (it's unusual since we have very stiff door handle fittings in our apartment here).
Also, the toilet rosette for locking feels like something from a school restroom.
Maybe an adjustment will be enough here.

pagoni202011 Apr 2021 10:39We currently have self-selected lever handle sets from the hardware store, even at a surprisingly low cost, and they work without any issues. They will do the same for you; that’s the main point.
The mental association with a school bathroom is not universal; I think it is correct that this door can be locked.
Better or different options are always possible – but they are also more expensive.

The plastic catches are cheaper, but also quieter if the door is just slammed shut (which you shouldn’t do, but well...).

With small children, it really has advantages, since you get lockable toilets (at least in the guest WC most will probably appreciate that) without the risk of a child locking themselves in and being unreachable.
Our eldest once locked herself in the bedroom, where we hadn’t placed the key out of reach, and then things got interesting... She stayed calm, and the parents were fairly calm too :p, so after a few attempts she managed to free herself again. Otherwise, the door would have had to be forced.
