Dear forum,
Our quote includes tiles in the above size at 30 euros per square meter (approximately $30 per square yard) including installation. Our general contractor has also openly mentioned that many homeowners choose a larger format. This would be significantly more expensive due to the need for a second worker, more difficult installation, and increased material usage. I find myself wavering daily between "there's no need to follow every trend" and "maybe I'll regret the smaller formats for the next 40 years."
My parents-in-law recently installed a bathroom with this size of tile, which we like very much. We have planned to use the tiles for the hallways, entrance area, kitchen, and bathrooms. Using different tiles is not an option for us.
Could you please share your experiences and feedback?

Seriously! Just my opinion that I shared with the original poster 😉
...Well, I would rather compare a tile floor with minimal grout lines, for example, to Brillux Mineralico, but definitely not to linoleum.ypg schrieb:

Do you have any advice for the original poster as well?Yes, the original poster should choose what they like and what fits their budget. Or better yet: check their budget first and then select what appeals to them accordingly 🙂
Small-format tiles—including 30cm x 30cm (12 inches x 12 inches)—aren't associated with "good and cheap" only by me. Anyone who likes them should go ahead and install them.

Small-format tiles – this includes exactly 30cm x 30cm (12 inches x 12 inches) –
...... or also 30cm x 60cm (12 inches x 24 inches)Schimi1791 schrieb:

That seems very small-scale thinking 😎Why? Just because it doesn’t match your opinion? Some people simply prefer fewer grout lines. I recently had a discussion where 30cm x 60cm (12 inches x 24 inches) tiles were considered at first. In the end, larger tiles were chosen.
Too many grout lines feel busy to me.
Of course, there are situations where smaller tiles might work well. For example, I imagine them fitting nicely in country-style or Mediterranean designs.
... and as mentioned: our floor 'comes to life' because of the tile pattern, not the grout lines.
I found choosing tiles extremely difficult. We went with 30x60cm (12x24 inches) because it was included with the general contractor, and the extra cost wasn’t really worth it for us.
I think our wood-look floor tiles in the bathroom would have looked better in 120x30cm (48x12 inches), but that was too expensive for us.
My husband had seen very large-format tiles with small decorative details for the hallway that he really liked—they had a bit of a Tuscan feel, somehow. We got a quote for it. It would have cost €1200 (about $1300) more just for that one room, and it wasn’t worth it to him.
In the end, I was just glad to have something decided. Just the selection offered by the general contractor, with so many walls full of tiles and combinations—it was overwhelming. We visited several times and still felt overwhelmed on the appointment day. How are you supposed to really imagine what it will look like later in your own bathroom?
We roughly explained what we wanted and focused around our mosaic tile as a decorative feature. We knew we wanted that for decoration and let the planner advise us for the surrounding tiles. There were still countless tiles that would have matched, and in the end, we just picked one. I’m very happy with it.
If I had introduced even larger formats, I would have been completely overwhelmed. To me, these 30x60cm (12x24 inches) tiles already look very modern. I spent the last nine years living in a rental with about 20x30cm (8x12 inches) tiles in the bathroom, and all the floors were square tiles, with the hallway and kitchen in a nice terracotta color—which I can’t stand anymore because I’ve seen it too much.
