Hello
I want to upgrade my home with a smart home system.
Which smart home system would be best suited for this?
The following points should be covered:
- If possible, everything should be controllable via one app
- It should be possible to create rules
- All solutions should allow either replacing or continuing to use the existing switches (surface-mounted or flush-mounted)
- Everything should also be manually operable without a phone and without internet
- Control electric roller shutters: for example, I want to set the shutters to close automatically at sunset (so the time adjusts automatically each day).
We have a sliding door that lifts and slides. If it is open or ajar but not fully closed, the shutters at the door should not close and lock me out 🙂
- Control underfloor heating: all rooms have underfloor heating with individual thermostats. I want to set the temperature once, for example living room 21°C (70°F) and bedroom 18°C (64°F), and the system should then regulate everything else to maintain the temperature.
Later, I want to add the following:
Light switches: I want to control all light switches via the app (on/off), but they should also remain manually operable.
Window sensors: to check if any window is still open or to notify me if it is raining and a window is open.
I will also install a Hörmann sectional garage door later, which I would like to integrate (but it wouldn’t be a big issue if it needs to run separately).

Pwnage61930 Mar 2021 14:50The developer told me that everything related to smart home systems needs to be discussed with the electrician.
What would be the best solution to ask the electrician if he can/wants to implement it and at what price?
What would you estimate the cost of your suggested solution to be, so I can assess whether his price offer is realistic or way too expensive?
The system should also be adjustable and programmable by me later on without needing to hire a professional.

Tata Nano 😎Then how about this: What is the ideal car based on the statement "I want a car with an engine, steering wheel, 4 wheels, and seating that best meets my individual needs"?Otherwise, I would probably just answer Shelly or Sonoff here and leave it at that.
I completely agree with the previous comments. The car examples are always a good comparison for home electrical systems. Should the heated steering wheel be included, or is an automatic tailgate enough?
Correct, we have advised you here several times already. That is the usual procedure.
Only you can decide that for yourself. The optimal solution would be structured wiring. Separate and secure communication. An open system without vendor lock-in. Stable on the market and future-proof. Without constant updates because some teenager has just discovered and wants to exploit a security vulnerability. Without cloud but still with full remote control... easily adjustable (without needing years of study or programming skills) to new requirements and/or new residents and/or new technology... and so on.
10,000 to 100,000... anything else would be wildly exaggerated.
Yes, it definitely should be. But that is true for most common systems anyway.

Pwnage61931 Mar 2021 10:57I have tried to read up on this difficult topic again.
From what I have read, KNX is supposed to be one of the best solutions but it is very, very expensive (at least 10,000-15,000 EUR) and quite difficult to install and program. For any changes, you often have to call an electrician (unless you have very advanced programming skills).
What do you think of Busch free@home? It is based on KNX and even uses the same cables. It is supposed to be cheaper and easier to program (so designed more for private users).
The downside is that everything comes from just one manufacturer, but it is a major one: Busch Jäger.
Would Homematic IP Wired be an alternative to Busch free@home? Both systems come from a single manufacturer.
We had imagined spending a maximum of 5,000 EUR for smart home technology (preferably less), but if cables need to be installed, that has to be done right away.
