ᐅ Outdoor Security Camera

Good evening,

I would like to get some surveillance cameras. Unfortunately, there are so many offers available, with some costing 1500 euros and others 300 euros, even though I hardly see any difference between some of them. Therefore, I wanted to ask if anyone has a lot of knowledge or experience with a good set.

I would like to have 4 cameras for outdoor use. They should have Wi-Fi, as I don’t want to run cables everywhere, and offer live streaming to a smartphone via an app or another method. Additionally, an optional alarm that can be activated—preferably only at night—would be useful.

The problem is that I don’t want the cameras to be immediately noticeable on my house, so ideally they should have a black housing. I plan to hang them on my balcony and point them toward my house. The sidewalk will also be recorded since my property extends to the street, so there should be no legal issues.

I’m willing to spend up to 500 euros if that is feasible. I hope someone can help me as soon as possible because frequently teenagers cause trouble right in front of my house. For example, every year on New Year’s Eve, someone throws a firework into a stone trash bin that is located in front of my house. EVERY YEAR THE SAME THING. Now I’ve had enough and plan to go to the police this year with hopefully good video evidence.

Thank you very much for the help.

Yes, the number of break-ins may be lower. But the number of people injured or killed by these weapons is significantly higher. But that’s not such a big deal, right? As long as there are fewer break-ins.

This statement also results from the media’s simplistic reporting and does not become more accurate through repetition. The USA has a major problem with gang-related crime, which leads to many deaths. A large portion of gun fatalities in the USA is due to the high suicide rate. In the “normal” socially integrated areas, gun crime is not higher than in Europe.
By the way, in Germany there are far more illegal than legal firearms. It is estimated that when the Russians withdrew from Germany in 1990, they sold several hundred thousand Kalashnikovs at low prices to the German population.

... and in the end, you face an opponent armed as well, who may have a real weapon in case of doubt and, unlike you, also knows how to use it. Great solution.

There are some dangerous people around; you can see it on the news all the time, including in Germany. So it’s not hard to understand the desire to have a weapon. There have already been enough cases where terrible things happened right in front of surveillance cameras at train stations, commuter trains, etc. What is a man supposed to do when three drugged-up guys approach him and his wife? Having a real firearm wouldn’t be a bad deterrent: just threatening to use it. They'll back off, or else the first one gets shot in the leg. I’d rather not just watch while they attack my wife...

I assume you have no experience with real or even tactical shooting? If they’re already closer than 6-8 meters (20-26 feet), even a well-trained shooter can do nothing. By the time they reach you, you might barely remember where your weapon is and how to draw it. By the way, three drug-affected guys don’t really care much if you shoot them in the leg.

Even if you hit one, the other two will then happily take your weapon. And they will cause even more damage.

During my military service, I definitely had to shoot with a pistol; the result: the shorter the distance, the better. My best accuracy was at about 10 meters (33 feet); beyond that was rather disappointing. Now I only have a gas pistol, which I find better than nothing at all. I don’t practice judo or karate. But everyone has to decide that for themselves. The fact is: cameras don’t provide real protection.
