Hello. I recently bought a house with asbestos cement panels installed on a wooden framework on the facade. Since I want to keep these panels in place because completely removing and re-cladding would be too expensive, I have a question.

Is it possible to cover the facade with an exterior adhesive plaster and then apply a textured or scratch plaster on top? I’m not sure if these panels might shift or move in any way and cause cracks in the plaster later on.

What is the quality of the asbestos panels? They must have been on the wall for at least 50 years.

You bought the house with that defect. Then you should fix it instead of covering it up.

The plaster alone will not meet the requirements for thermal insulation.

The house was built in ’85. All the panels are still in perfect condition.

I just want to know if this option will adhere to the wall.

Not a good idea, the boards bend between the battens during plastering, causing cracks that seem never-ending. Everything is too flexible to hold the plaster properly. Remove one board, and you might find damaged plaster, rising moisture with efflorescence, damaged masonry, and other issues.
