Good evening,
I would like to get some surveillance cameras. Unfortunately, there are so many offers available, with some costing 1500 euros and others 300 euros, even though I hardly see any difference between some of them. Therefore, I wanted to ask if anyone has a lot of knowledge or experience with a good set.
I would like to have 4 cameras for outdoor use. They should have Wi-Fi, as I don’t want to run cables everywhere, and offer live streaming to a smartphone via an app or another method. Additionally, an optional alarm that can be activated—preferably only at night—would be useful.
The problem is that I don’t want the cameras to be immediately noticeable on my house, so ideally they should have a black housing. I plan to hang them on my balcony and point them toward my house. The sidewalk will also be recorded since my property extends to the street, so there should be no legal issues.
I’m willing to spend up to 500 euros if that is feasible. I hope someone can help me as soon as possible because frequently teenagers cause trouble right in front of my house. For example, every year on New Year’s Eve, someone throws a firework into a stone trash bin that is located in front of my house. EVERY YEAR THE SAME THING. Now I’ve had enough and plan to go to the police this year with hopefully good video evidence.
Thank you very much for the help.

... and throw a LaBomba into a stone trash bin that is in front of my house. ... For 500 EUR you won’t get 4 good cameras. I’ll skip the detailed differences, but it has to do with optical lenses, brightness, technical reliability, and so on;
A Wi-Fi camera isn’t necessary for live streaming to a phone or similar. Any standard camera connected via Ethernet cable can be connected to the home network and Wi-Fi through a bridge or similar device. Then you can see images from wired cameras on your phone via Wi-Fi. Network cables have a significantly better data rate, and if you want high-resolution images or videos, I would avoid Wi-Fi cameras (they are more like toys!).
You can integrate alarms if you buy decent hardware. The camera itself can trigger an alarm, but I would only send a notification to a phone or similar. False alarms are always likely here.
If the camera shouldn’t be visible, it would need to be behind one-way glass or hidden with a tiny lens in the ceiling or similar.
At the end of the day, if your only concern is the stone trash bin at New Year’s Eve, I wouldn’t go to that much trouble for just one day. Especially since you’d need good lighting at night to get clear images. If possible, lock the bin with a chain and padlock or fill it with water up to the top, or think of another way to spoil the fun for the youngsters.

Thank you very much for the help. INSTAR with POE 5907 or 9008
However, you can see the IR LEDs for night vision.
But you still have half a year to come up with something better while your eye twitches. Fill the bucket with gasoline? Booby trap? A Doberman puppy won’t have grown big enough to be intimidating in 6 months, so that’s out... you might blow up the bucket yourself!

the IR LEDs for night vision are visible though. I am considering having the roofer run cables to the roof eaves for exterior surveillance.
I am currently writing a thesis on a subtopic of home automation and am glad to be doing this only now, after the main planning is mostly finalized. Otherwise, it would have had to be KNX with all its nice gadgets, but I still came up with some questionable ideas.
Are PoE cameras any good? Two PoE lines are already being installed throughout the house for access points, so I could have a few more cables planned and cover four corners of the house with cameras. Or would it be better to have separate power and Ethernet instead of PoE?
I am mostly aware of the legal implications. My concern is the (affordable) technology—I would roughly budget up to 500€ per camera.
Of course, there are very good PoE cameras available. Some require high-power PoE or even 100-watt injectors. However, these are significantly more expensive.
What do you want to do with cameras mounted under the roof eaves? Monitor where the robotic lawn mower is, or how much hair your guests have? This is a very poor location, but it's okay as a fun experiment.
With a budget of €500 per camera, you can get something decent. Just not with facial recognition or the ability to distinguish between people, vehicles, and animals.
How do you plan to record? ...
Make sure to separate the network for the cameras.
