ᐅ Mixed facade. How extensive are the efforts and costs involved?

Hello everyone,

since we are planning our own home, I have already read a lot in the forum. My wife really likes a mixed facade, meaning part plaster/render and part brick or brick veneer.

Unfortunately, I found very little information on this in the forum.

Can anyone share some insights about the effort and costs involved? Do I need different wall constructions or insulation for the different parts, or is the entire house first rendered and then only brick slips applied for the mixed facade?

To each their own! Fortunately, tastes vary. Some appreciate the brightness of a (white) plaster facade because it reflects light across all wavelengths and therefore appears more welcoming... For the impression you get every day when you come home, the effort of repainting is worthwhile, especially since ideally it can wait about a decade.

Personal taste has no place in a response. If that is difficult, take a leaf out of Nuhr’s book.

... it can withstand a high-pressure cleaner, unlike the joints of the facing bricks

.. that is absolutely wrong ... on the contrary ... the joint can withstand more than a minimum exterior plaster ..

I’m still not sure whether you work in a profession characterized by arrogance—which seems to be the majority among the certified idiots in our industry (sorry E.Curb—you are definitely not included), or if you are a young buck whose antlers haven’t been replaced enough times yet, or if you just confuse self-confidence with knowledge ... in any case, you certainly don’t lack confidence.

It’s not wrong. I can show you façades—whether finished with synthetic resin or mineral render at the end—where a pressure washer has served well for years. Naturally, the proud homeowner does not clean the entire façade but only the weather-exposed side—and it works excellently. For some façades with slightly less pressure, for others with a bit more. Good pressure washers can be adjusted ... you know
