The weather is expected to turn quite unpleasant, and in some areas, ice rain could actually cause a few power poles to topple. I don’t think this will happen, but just for fun, here’s a question:
How do you prepare for a 48-hour power outage at -5 to -10°C (23 to 14°F)?
It never hurts to think about this kind of situation, even if it’s unlikely.

HilfeHilfe7 Feb 2021 18:13Has the "Russian whip" already arrived at your place??
We had a 10-minute power outage today, and a neighborhood connected to the district heating lost its heating.
Well, we are not prepared at all. It starts with the fact that there is no heating, no candles, etc.
Basically, by now we are all so dependent on electricity and comfort that things get difficult quickly.
Great, you can barbecue outside, but then space becomes limited quickly as well.
Most fireplaces in the houses, if they have any, look nice but are no longer suitable for cooking.
And it’s getting cold. For some faster than others, but it’s getting cold and uncomfortable.

a wind turbine will be spinning for us Could you please explain more about the wind turbine?
Is this an option that can be pursued?
We went for a walk today. Not much was possible, as the east wind was biting at our faces. Even using a grill outside wouldn’t be enjoyable, since the freezing wind is quite strong and drifting snow really limits what you can do.
Day 1 survived well! Click & Collect saved my paint supply, so I was able to paint some furniture 😀

hampshire8 Feb 2021 00:09Now I would be stranded in a power outage: Superbowl 55 is starting!
Seriously? As if everyone here lives isolated in the middle of nowhere. Just a few flashlights, a gas grill, and if it takes longer, I’ll simply set up one or two gas heaters. The beer just comes from the fridge out to the terrace by the grill, no problem.
And if things really get serious, you just get in the car and drive somewhere with power ^^ I’m not assuming a nationwide blackout, then maybe a machete would come into play :p
P.S. @Winniefred For indoor water pipes to freeze, the heating would have to be off and the house unoccupied for a very long time. Weeks, if not months or possibly never, depending on the house’s insulation.
