Hello everyone,

I’m new here and have already browsed the forum a bit for my question, but haven’t found anything quite suitable so far.

We are in the final stages of working with our construction company, and one of the bigger topics for us is the wall construction.
We definitely want a brick or brick slip finish – but because of the quality, we are leaning towards real bricks.

Using a T8 block (36.5cm (14.4 inches)) with brick, the wall thickness ends up just under 50cm (20 inches).
We are a bit unsure whether that might be too thick and possibly look odd. Does anyone have experience with this?
And what are your experiences regarding the indoor climate with this kind of wall construction?

Back then, I had a 30cm (12 inch) Poroton W10, followed by insulation, then an air gap, and finally a facing brick.

Today, it is a 36.5cm (14.5 inch) T9 with plaster.

A 50mm (2 inch) wall is nothing special. A 42.5 cm (17 inch) block plus exterior plaster also gets you close to 50.
But 45 is not close to 50 😉 .
Base coat plaster is usually 15-20mm (0.6-0.8 inch), finish coat 3-5mm (0.1-0.2 inch). Possibly an additional reinforcing layer.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. We will probably switch to 36.5 Poroton + insulation + facing bricks.

Which suggestions did you misunderstand that made you want to go ahead with such a questionable setup?
That would automatically lead to extremely thick walls: with the insulation including the gap/air layer, we will hardly have less than ten centimeters (4 inches), and at the same time, this rules out the option of thin bricks (slip bricks) which would add another nine centimeters (3.5 inches). Adding insulation on top also makes the 36.5 cm (14.4 inches) construction shell thickness excessive. What exact structure does the general contractor recommend?

That doesn’t make sense or is unnecessary. What is the goal here? 17.5 sand-lime brick + insulation + facing brick would be better. Or 36.5 + thin brick veneer.

Sorry – that was indeed nonsense. I meant, of course,

24cm (9.5 inches) masonry
12cm (4.7 inches) mineral-based facade insulation with fleece
1cm (0.4 inches) air gap
11.5cm (4.5 inches) facing bricks
