Hello everyone,
I’m new here and have already browsed the forum a bit for my question, but haven’t found anything quite suitable so far.
We are in the final stages of working with our construction company, and one of the bigger topics for us is the wall construction.
We definitely want a brick or brick slip finish – but because of the quality, we are leaning towards real bricks.
Using a T8 block (36.5cm (14.4 inches)) with brick, the wall thickness ends up just under 50cm (20 inches).
We are a bit unsure whether that might be too thick and possibly look odd. Does anyone have experience with this?
And what are your experiences regarding the indoor climate with this kind of wall construction?

We definitely want clinker bricks or clinker brick slips, but tend to choose real clinker bricks because of their higher value. A solid wall with 36.5cm (14.4 inches) thickness already meets the energy-saving regulations, so adding a facing shell is technically unnecessary. Whether using clay blocks or aerated concrete, I would recommend brick slips here. Concerns about perceived quality are purely subjective. Thicker walls were once seen as a sign of wealth during the Ludwig Erhard era.
But don’t forget my mantra when deciding: the best wall construction is the one that the builder has the most experience with. If they usually work with certain materials, don’t suddenly switch just because of trends. By the way, I trust brick slips also perform consistently better when installed by less experienced workers, like those many general contractors employ for their brickwork. Also, when choosing the color tone of the slips, consider selecting a shade about a quarter of a diopter less intense. Many newcomers to clinker bricks assume from photos or sample panels that the color (or its uniformity/variation) isn’t vibrant enough and tend to exaggerate. The effect on the actual building is quite different from that on the sample panel.

Who does that? A 42.5cm (17 inches) block! That’s almost half a meter. What an obsession with insulation! That’s standard for Poroton 36.5cm (14 inches) or 42.5cm (17 inches).Similar topics
