ᐅ Building Stair Railings with Aerated Concrete Blocks – Is It Stable?

I have a question... Our construction manager wants to build a railing on our 1.07m (3.5 ft) wide concrete staircase using 7cm (2.75 inches) Ytong blocks and then plaster it...

From the beginning, we wanted a masonry railing, but now the stairwell opening is quite large, so a full wall from top to bottom across the two floors is no longer possible...

But will something like this hold? Has anyone done this before?

We built it like in the first picture... the staircase is cast in concrete, the railing is made of aerated concrete blocks glued onto the stairs... it holds...

Do you have a stairwell opening? Or is the aerated concrete simply glued at the landing (that is, first flight - landing - second flight)?

Could you possibly send me two or three photos of your installation? My building contractor has never done this before and thinks that cracks might develop over time where the blocks are glued.
You would be doing me a big favor!

Thank you very much in advance!

I have a narrow stairwell opening similar in shape to the one in the picture (the stairs are covered with oak and the handrail as well).... unfortunately, I can’t send you a private message, that doesn’t seem to be possible here and I don’t want to upload the original pictures...

The aerated concrete block is only 7cm (3 inches) thick, and the staircase has been in place for almost two years... there’s no cracking at all.

If I understand you correctly, you don’t want an opening at all, right?

Here are the photos

that cracks could develop over time at the bonding points.
He is right. Cracks can occur anywhere two different materials meet. This applies not only to a staircase but to the entire house. However, it doesn’t have to happen. Some cracks remain so small that they go unnoticed, while others may only appear after 5 years.

Where is the first photo of the staircase from?

Oh dear... I think the images were from Google Image Search or Pinterest. Good luck.
