ᐅ Should the hallway and the living/dining area have the same flooring?

Good evening,

We are currently planning the flooring for our living/dining area and are wondering whether it looks better if the hallway and living/dining area have the same flooring, or if it is more attractive to have two different types of flooring. I imagine it looks more harmonious with the same flooring‍♀️ The tiles for the hallway are included in the price, but we would like vinyl for the living/dining area.

Please forget about vinyl. It’s delicate, has an unpleasant odor, poor texture, and a cheap appearance. Truly the worst flooring option after laminate. Better to go with wood-look tiles or planks.

Whether to use the same flooring throughout or mix depends on the floor plan. If it’s very open, the same flooring makes sense. If the rooms are more separated, mixing floors can work better. Both approaches have their appeal.

Hello,

at the moment, I’m leaning towards tiles as well. The kitchen, living area, and hallway are fairly open. However, there is a door between the living area and hallway. I think a uniform floor covering would look more harmonious. Although I am still considering using concrete-look tiles in the kitchen that transition into wood-look tiles. ‍♀️

I just had the idea to use wood-look tiles instead of vinyl.

That’s exactly what we will have installed throughout the entire house.

Is that really the case? I read that in new builds, underfloor heating doesn’t radiate enough to feel warm underfoot.
Good point... I’ve heard that underfloor heating feels very comfortable at the feet‍♀️

they don’t feel cold.
We almost always walk around barefoot inside, and the heating is barely on – we’re just fish heads 🙂 .
If the floor feels very warm, something is wrong.

Why is it still too early?! For us, the foundation slab won’t be done until the next few weeks, but I’m already thinking about all kinds of things. Sampling and selections start around the end of January, so I’d really like to have a plan by then 🙂

Would you consider starting a new thread about the selection process and sharing your experiences? Before the sampling appointment, I’m more nervous than before root canal treatments or other procedures. Not because of the money—I have a buffer for that—but because of the number of decisions that, as I understand, need to be made immediately and within a very short time while someone is standing there waiting. And also because my husband and I have very different tastes.

And then unfortunately also because my husband and I come from different taste worlds.
Hello,
for us, it’s the opposite—my wife lives in the wrong taste world. :p
Although, it can’t be that bad after all—she has me...
