Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

A really beautiful house 🙂 May I ask who the architect is?

Wow, everything looks really great! Congratulations. Would you, Vorlauf, be interested in sharing more? Maybe some floor plans as well? I’m sure some people here would be interested. 😉

PS: I didn’t see the previous posts. But floor plans are missing :p

On the wiki under Genex, you can find a catalog page with prices. Of course, it's hard to say what these prices meant at the time.

No, not really: the goods and prices shown there are from the Western catalog, so for the Schenker, and accordingly in Westmark. As far as I recall, they also corresponded to the then West German retail prices. In the price range of a VW bus or a Neckermann house, a GDR citizen probably usually raised the money from inherited West German assets or claims for payout—just from converted wages for foreign assignments in other Comecon countries, such an amount was hardly reachable.

The Flair 113 from the GDR

To some extent, yes. Since it was not a turnkey house but only a set of building plans, upgrades or changes to non-load-bearing walls were entirely up to the owner, without influencing the price charged by the plan supplier. But in terms of scale, target group, and market penetration, I consider the comparison valid. However, the EW65 was likely built standard with a full basement, while the Flair 113 was probably at least equally popular among builders opting for slab-on-grade foundations.

Our house has been finished since May

Definitely a low-maintenance garden! 🙂

Are there infrared heaters or something similar installed on the covered terrace?

The photo was taken by a professional who was hired by the architects and was there for a whole day. He took photos for the architects’ website. Of course, there are more pictures.

Is anyone living there yet? 🙂

Ok... the later posts answer the question!

In any case, the house stands out from the usual cookie-cutter designs (townhouses, etc.) 🙂

How is the infrastructure in the area?

Great house, I think so too. It looks like it could be just around the corner from us – judging by the landscape.

I’d also be interested in the floor plans.
Would you be willing to share who you built with, the construction method, etc.?

I probably would have separated the terrace a bit more from the entrance, but you can always fix that with a large plant pot, for example.

The kitchen looks like it might not be on the ground floor – if it is, how do you clean the window from the outside? (That just caught my attention from my inner housekeeper...)

In any case, you can be sure I’m envious of your plot. We would have loved to have a detached house like that too, but we were just happy to get any land to build on and had to accept some compromises. But yours: right in the middle of the countryside! A dream!!!
