ᐅ Plumbing Quote – Realistic and Fair?

Hello,

I received a quote from the plumbing company carrying out the work, and I was almost shocked. I understand that plumbing installations are expensive. However, I find the installation of a rain shower (surface-mounted, with thermostat) for about 1000 € gross quite overpriced (especially since you can find similar products online for around 100-300 € without installation, which shouldn’t be that expensive, especially considering the user manual is available online).

The installation of a faucet we chose is supposed to cost over 300 €.

Is this justified, and does it really result in significantly better quality (I am not an expert), or is this simply taking advantage of the contract situation (take it or leave it)? We are not obliged and could go with the standard option….

But you really seem to be comparing apples and oranges. You wouldn’t expect a BMW to cost the same as a Dacia either.
I’m not saying Dacia is bad.
But you have to decide whether you want "some" random parts from Amazon or branded products from a specialist retailer.
That’s up to each individual.

Your comparison with car brands is a bit off, as there is, of course, a lot of belief involved, but also many strong arguments (resale value of certain brands, lifespan, inventory management, technical performance, etc.). The automotive market is definitely much better analyzed.

Besides the valid argument for the advantages of professional installation (expert fitting, warranty), I haven’t read many solid facts about the choice of materials here.

So, it seems more like a risk decision. With the higher price, you take less risk because the rain shower will probably work, and if it doesn’t, you have the warranty. If you feel confident doing it yourself, you won’t have a warranty, but you can achieve the same result for much less money.

You need to at least find the exact names of the products offered. Then check if you can find the models online, and even then the markup will still be very high. After that, decide for yourself whether you want to install it yourself.

The rain shower you offered me is a Concept 300 (including thermostat). Unfortunately, detailed specifications are not available.

If you want to install this yourself or with a friend, why not choose a model that has been tested or that you can test yourself?
Buying something of equal or better quality without having any information about it wouldn’t be my choice.
I don’t know the price of this Concept300, but if you want to do the work yourself, why not use a quality product that is verifiable and traceable? I already suggested some affordable brand-name models to you.

Buying something for which I expect similar or better quality but cannot get any information would not be my choice.

I do not want to do it myself. With such a high amount involved, however, it makes sense to check whether it is worth removing the work from the contract (and thus losing benefits such as warranty, etc.).
