Good evening everyone,
We have planned a panoramic fireplace as a room divider in our living area.
The living area is about 60sqm (646 sq ft) with a volume of 150m3 (5,295 cu ft).
There are some nice fireplaces from well-known manufacturers that we find visually appealing, but in our opinion, all good fireplaces have a rated output between 9kW and 12kW.
According to online research, this is probably a bit too much... however...
Are there any experiences from people who have already had to make such a decision?
What happens if you simply use less wood...
(I know it is said that the glass then gets dirty more quickly – any experiences?)
Thanks in advance!

Hi @Abellio
I have a SCHMID 9kW stove as a room divider. It also has quite a lot of thermal mass. Among other things, I had it built up to ceiling height.
We usually fuel it with about 3kg (6.6 lbs) of wood.
Our couch is quite close, but we still enjoy comfortable temperatures.
Does your picture above show your house?

@hampshire : great fireplace!
Get yourself an ash vacuum cleaner. I can highly recommend it 🙂Hi Alessandro,
Thank you very much for your input and experience.
What is the exact model of your Schmid stove?
It looks good in terms of size.
PS The picture is not from our house, but we have the stove positioned similarly to you as a room divider.
Best regards

Buy an ash vacuum cleaner. I can only recommend it. Thanks for the tip. I only need a dustpan and brush. Very little ash accumulates in the masonry heater. We burn up to 13 kg (29 pounds) in one firing. After that, cleaning out the ash is not yet worth it.

What is the model name of your Schmid fireplace?
The designation on the invoice is EKKO 55(67)51h

Isokrates23 Nov 2020 10:56We originally wanted a panoramic fireplace as a room divider. However, our stove fitter strongly advised against it, as too much heat would be released uncontrollably into the room through the three glass panels.
We have now decided on a corner fireplace (HKD 11) from Brunner (which still has 11 kW) and built it up to the ceiling, incorporating as much thermal mass as possible.
Ps: Sorry for the duplicate image; uploading and especially deleting images in this forum doesn’t work properly with my phone.

hampshire23 Nov 2020 13:20Is the 11kW rating for the unit alone or the entire system? The power rating for stoves refers to a specific time period. As the thermal storage mass increases, the required power rating of the system decreases, since the heat energy is released at a time beyond the measurement period.
