Our staircase will be located in the open space/gallery area and will likely be a quarter-turn steel stringer or folded plate staircase. Since it will be positioned in the middle of the room, it should also be visually appealing.

The stairs connect to solid wood floorboards made of pine or possibly larch or Douglas fir on both the ground floor and the upper floor, which we might stain darker.

However, there is a meeting of different materials and colors at both transitions to the floor. The risk is that the color tone will only be an approximate match, so we are considering choosing something "completely different."

Are there any ideas regarding this "problem" of clashing colors/materials? A steel staircase might be less comfortable to walk on, and a rustic steel staircase with diamond plate or similar looks stylish but might be too dominant in a not very large open-plan space.

Perhaps someone has pictures or ideas...

Maybe you would like to look at pictures of "glass staircases." There are too many to post here. However, you can easily find them using any common search engine.

Thanks, I’m afraid I’ve already gone through almost all the variations... the internet at night is really overwhelming because... too much.
I would have liked a steel staircase, also glass, but in the end, we’re somewhat tied to the contractor in this case.
To be honest, I would love to install a so-called steel exterior staircase, but unfortunately, I’m quite alone with that opinion here at home 🤨. Maybe that’s for the best, as it might look too bulky inside the space...
For tactile reasons, the surface will probably be wood after all, which then brings up the "problem" of similar materials and color tones. The same goes for the railing. The round wooden handrail on the steel railing probably feels best to the hand... but not to my eye.
Hmm...

I think you can hardly go wrong with a staircase like this. It usually fits well.

I would choose wood with a nice lacquer finish if you don’t want to add more wood stain. Elegant white or even colored finishes can look really stylish. So, you need to be careful with the colors, but it can definitely turn out very well.
