ᐅ Gray/Anthracite-Colored Windows – The New "White"?

Hello everyone,

We recently visited the construction site of our general contractor. The house had gray windows on the outside, and my husband was immediately impressed.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we had to wait a bit before entering the house, and that’s when I noticed that the window handles were white. Then I looked at the windows from the inside – also white. I didn’t like that. For me, both the outside and inside being gray would not be an option.

It seems like almost every new build has gray windows these days. Is gray the new white now, or just a trend, and will the classic white windows make a comeback?

I like white, my husband prefers gray...

What did you decide on?

The advantage of dark roofs is that solar thermal panels don’t stand out as much.

The trend toward heat pumps is also driving the trend toward photovoltaic systems, and these simply look better on dark roofs than on red ones.

Sure, it could be otherwise. Photovoltaics do actually look better on dark roofs, but only the panels without thick aluminum frames.
Now I’m wondering whether I should invest in producing frameless red photovoltaic panels after all. They have about 15% less efficiency and cost somewhat more to manufacture. Red shades couldn’t be easily customized, so we’d need to see which roof tiles or shingles they would be color-compatible with. Who has a red roof and some spare cash to join in?

White is timeless.
Timeless in terms of fashion history, yes; timeless in terms of long-term appeal, unfortunately not so much.

We just hope that solar panels will soon be available in more colors.
Color relates to the wavelength of light and therefore also affects efficiency and performance in anything solar-related. Solar panels, similar to photovoltaic modules, are primarily technical components rather than design-optimized elements.

Doors (Köster) and external blinds (Warema) in RAL 9007 / gray aluminum.

There are roof tiles (also available in red :cool 🙂 with integrated, barely visible photovoltaic cells (Nelskamp and others). Unfortunately, they are significantly more expensive and less efficient because the usable surface area is smaller ...

Maybe it will come to installing the photovoltaic system on the red roof to clearly show even the last neighbor that you care about the environment and sustainability. The diesel vehicle is, of course, parked inside the locked garage.

RAL 9007 is great; we also use it for door frames, garage doors, and external blinds or roller shutters.
