ᐅ Better to avoid wallpaper when moving in for the first time?

In our new build, the discussion about painting versus wallpapering has come up. Since we want all the walls to be white anyway (usually textured wallpaper that is painted white), we were advised not to wallpaper the first time but just to paint. This way, the walls could dry out better. Is there any truth to that, and does it actually look good? Or perhaps only in the bathroom above the tiles? I find it hard to imagine this in the living area.

Personally, I would definitely avoid using textured wallpaper. You can paint directly onto well-prepared plaster, or if necessary, use painter’s fleece.
There are various options for paint or textured paint that look very good.

I can’t understand why anyone still wallpaper today.

We will only paint our house as well.

Why not? We currently have non-woven wallpaper in our condominium, and it’s really great. Very durable, with neat corner edges. We plan to do the same in the house.

For me, this statement only applies to woodchip wallpaper. Non-woven wallpaper provides a smooth surface that I can then color as I like. We currently have that here, and I find it just as good as applying paint directly onto a quality plaster surface.

Although I haven’t used it in a long time, I believe you can also create attractive designs with nice patterned wallpaper; I just don’t like woodchip wallpaper.
