Hi all,
I am currently working on setting up a network. Through various threads here, I came across Ubiquiti and find their products quite appealing.
Now it’s time to choose the components.
Requirements:
- Support 16 CAT6a network outlets (14 in rooms + 2 spare)
- Support 8 CAT6a with PoE (3x Doorbird, 4x access points, 1 spare)
- Magenta TV
- Internet feed via Telekom Speedport Smart 3
I enjoy reports, statistics, and configuration options but basically do not want to have to adjust settings every day. In other words, everything should primarily "just work."
I have looked into different setups:
Option 1:
- Dream Machine Pro
- Switch-16-150w
- 4 Nano HD
Option 2:
- USG (Pro?)
- Cloud Key
- Switch 24 PoE
- 4 Nano HD
Option 3 – No Unifi
- Any 24-port PoE switch
- 4 matching access points
Between option 1 and 2, I tend to lean toward option 1, since the price difference is minimal. However, when summarizing, the question arose whether such an infrastructure is justified for “this small network.” Hence option 3.
Best regards,
Harv

Tarnari ended up with the Cisco SG250 series and seems quite satisfied!
Here you can read a bit. I am very satisfied, but it is certainly not the only option. The Edge series from Ubiquiti should also work. There is just little experience reported about it.

How does it work if I want to access my X1 from outside (just for use)? Can I do that with the app, or do I need to use a VPN?You can either set up a VPN access yourself or use the S1.
