Hi all,

I am currently working on setting up a network. Through various threads here, I came across Ubiquiti and find their products quite appealing.

Now it’s time to choose the components.

Requirements:
- Support 16 CAT6a network outlets (14 in rooms + 2 spare)
- Support 8 CAT6a with PoE (3x Doorbird, 4x access points, 1 spare)
- Magenta TV
- Internet feed via Telekom Speedport Smart 3

I enjoy reports, statistics, and configuration options but basically do not want to have to adjust settings every day. In other words, everything should primarily "just work."

I have looked into different setups:

Option 1:
- Dream Machine Pro
- Switch-16-150w
- 4 Nano HD

Option 2:
- USG (Pro?)
- Cloud Key
- Switch 24 PoE
- 4 Nano HD

Option 3 – No Unifi
- Any 24-port PoE switch
- 4 matching access points

Between option 1 and 2, I tend to lean toward option 1, since the price difference is minimal. However, when summarizing, the question arose whether such an infrastructure is justified for “this small network.” Hence option 3.

Best regards,
Harv

Regardless of everything else, if you plan to use the Unifi switches, you will need to do a lot of configuration to be able to use Magenta TV. They do not support IGMPv3 or IGMP snooping.
The question is what you expect from the Dream Machine and similar devices, and whether your goal might be achieved in a different way.

Option 2, but take into account the notes from @Tarnari.
I am not sure about the very latest switches or software.
Dream Machine is more suited for very small setups.

It’s about the Dream Machine Pro. As far as I know, it is also superior to the USG Pro in terms of “monitored bandwidth.”

By the way, in my post, it should have said “having to do some tinkering.” No idea why I left that out. Probably because I’m bedridden.

By the way, you can also use the Unifi APs perfectly well as stand-alone devices. You don’t need a complete Unifi setup.

That's right, I have only read about Dream Machine.
The USG series should also receive an update soon, just like the switches have already received.
However, monitoring can also be done differently and more selectively.
You also need to keep an eye on routing across VLANs.
I have the USG XG, but unfortunately it was only available for a short time.
