Hello everyone,

We just received a "good" tip from an acquaintance regarding electrical installations in a single-family house.

What do you think about motion sensors in the hallway/landing areas in the basement/ground floor/upper floor? Does that make sense?

--> Why?? ---> To save on double switches, since they would no longer be needed!

I generally don’t see any real disadvantages in not doing this. Have you already considered it or even planned it?

What could you potentially save? I don’t have a price for a double switch setup yet but will inquire about that soon.

Actually, it's quite good, but then you need to use ones that also have a timer or light sensor, so they don’t switch on during the day unnecessarily. I’m not sure if motion sensor switches always have this feature.

I would say you will probably end up paying more, as motion detectors/switches are more expensive than regular switches. I estimate they cost about ten times as much as a standard switch (based on my experience with Gira).

Savings are definitely possible. However, the most important thing is that with suitable sensors, you never have to operate anything manually again.

By the way, motion detectors and similar devices in hallways, bathrooms, and other common areas are nothing unusual and have become completely standard.

We did this above for the hallway area. I won’t be able to report back for a few weeks. It looks fancy though and wasn’t that expensive. It costs around 150–200€ (approximately 160–215 USD), maybe even less?

You should consider pets, as they might accidentally turn it on at night.

Since we have pets, something like that is not an option for us. I don’t like systems where I have no control over the settings. What if I want to sneak through in the dark sometimes? I guess I’m old-fashioned and prefer to decide myself when the light turns on and when it doesn’t.
