ᐅ How can I set up Wi-Fi and telephone services, as well as technical installations, in the basement?

Hello everyone,

Since I am a complete beginner in the IT field, I’m asking for your help.

We are currently building a semi-detached house. Because of the underfloor heating, I have planned a CAT7 connection on every floor.

Now I’m wondering how I can later provide Wi-Fi and telephony throughout the house.

The incoming service line is located in the basement.

How can I distribute the telephony and Wi-Fi in the house using a FritzBox? I was thinking of installing an access point at the CAT7 outlets on every floor where needed. But how do I get the LAN connection there? Is it enough to connect the FritzBox in the basement to the network ports that end at the CAT7 outlets and then set up access points?

Also, I need to know how to connect a telephone (which will be located on the ground floor) to the FritzBox that is in the basement. Maybe Wi-Fi telephony?

Sorry for my awkwardness and many thanks for your help!

Will I have problems because of the different manufacturers?
No, that’s definitely not an issue.

In my example, the question was when the router also broadcasts Wi-Fi. In that case, it makes sense to set up the router repeaters as access points because then both the router and access points broadcast the same SSID and negotiate with each other which connection point is the best for the client. If you want the router to broadcast Wi-Fi and use the Unifi as an access point, you either have to use different SSIDs or give both the same SSID. However, having the same SSID will inevitably cause problems for clients because they won’t know which one to connect to.

For Wi-Fi, use devices from a single manufacturer because these pseudo mesh standards are not compatible across different brands.

Using an AVM router with a Unifi access point works fine, and I've been running this setup without any issues for some time now.

My plan was actually to use the Fritzbox as a modem combined with Unifi Lite access point(s), with the phone also connected through Fritz.
Will I run into any issues because the devices are from different manufacturers?
No, but be sure to disable the Fritzbox’s built-in Wi-Fi network.

That’s the plan. I’ve even understood that much by now, thanks to reading the forum.

But if I stick with AVM (router and repeater), the mesh standard should solve the issue of switching, right?

Why should I turn off the Fritzbox Wi-Fi? Sorry, I haven’t encountered this before and I’m not that experienced yet.

Why turn off the Wi-Fi on the Fritz!Box? Sorry, I haven’t come across that yet, but I’m also not deeply familiar with this topic.
Turning it off refers to using other access points than those from AVM.

Regarding mesh, with AVM you have to distinguish whether the additional wireless transmitters are operating as access points or as repeaters. Using mesh definitely makes sense with repeaters. With access points, I think you can’t even activate mesh.
I’m not entirely sure. We had ours running purely as an access point in bridged mode.
