Hey,

I have a set of two of the cameras mentioned above. I had an electrician install an outlet in the eaves on each long side of the house. Now I’m looking for a solution to power the cameras directly through these outlets if possible. I still want to keep the outlets functional for regular use. One option could be installing a second outlet next to each existing one, using the same wiring as a sort of branch. However, the Arlo cameras have relatively long outdoor power cables, which ideally should remain hidden. Does anyone have an idea? Maybe something like an access panel so that the equipment is housed inside the soffit...

Thanks for your suggestions.

Of course, you can branch off the junction box. How exactly you manage to do this as inconspicuously as possible depends on the conditions and the location.

In new construction, it’s common to use IP cameras with PoE (Power over Ethernet) rather than wireless cameras that rely on the cloud.
The roof overhang is also too deep for surveillance, and the camera detection will probably only work suboptimally.
If you have an empty conduit, it’s better to pull a LAN cable through and sell the Arlos or use them elsewhere.

There is no empty conduit laid there... everything is already closed up.

I saw the Arlo setup at a friend’s place and thought it fit very well... also under the eaves, although in his case the eaves are open rather than closed.

I have about 3 meters (10 feet) of height up to the eaves.

3m (10 feet) is fine if you just want to check whether something is there. You could simply install a junction box there and paint it a similar color to the roof overhang. You could coil the rather long power supply cable inside it. It’s not very neat, but then again, the entire solution isn’t meant to be.

The junction box looks really ugly, please don’t do that. There are cable outlet boxes in every system, and you can connect the Arlo directly there. If you also need a socket there, just install a double box (1x socket, 1x cable outlet).

Of course, it looks ugly—very ugly, actually. But he has a toy camera with a 3-meter (10-foot) power cable, and it needs to go somewhere. He doesn’t want it just dangling around; he doesn’t want to see it. If you don’t want to see anything at all, you could possibly move the existing outlet into the roof overhang (cut around the mounting plate), connect the power supply there, feed the cable in, and close the hole in a somewhat neat way. It’s not really clean, but it looks better than adding another panel at that spot. Usually, this would be done with a PoE cable and the camera would be mounted directly at the outlet. But here, Arlo is desired.
