Hey,

how did you handle (or not handle) the transition between the wall and the ceiling?

Did anyone use molding, is that still common, or do you simply leave it as is, especially since there is sometimes a small gap visible where the ceiling meets the walls?

This small gap is the trowel cut and it is supposed to be there. It can be sealed with acrylic before painting or wallpapering.

Ah, thanks. There is even a term for that... I'm surprised...

In my case, the painters said acrylic should be applied after the wallpaper. We did it that way and then I painted over it as usual.

There are small cracks in some places, but right now settlement cracks are appearing everywhere anyway, so the order probably doesn’t make much difference.

From earlier threads on this topic, I know that there are still many supporters of decorative trim. Supporters in the sense that using acrylic is often seen as a shortcut or poor workmanship.

That is certainly not the case; rather, it is more of a standard approach. Whether some decorative moldings improve the appearance is mainly a matter of personal taste. Technically, the notch cut with acrylic performs the function just as well.

Do you always use acrylic in there? Also with a decorative trim?
