Hello,

we have a crack in the corner of the window frame, see picture. The installation company is willing to retouch the crack with paint or similar. According to an expert, there is a risk that the frame may crack further and that this is a thermal bridge.

Are there any opinions on this?

The construction company prefers option 1. According to them, there would be no disadvantage for us.
We once had a large scratch on a delivered screen. Their initial response was that this was not a defect eligible for a claim since the screen itself still functioned.
Somehow, this just reminds me... that thing has to go, period!

He is just trying to scare you with the plaster and so on. That is not your problem, but his.

The plastering is not your problem, that's their responsibility.
The question is whether the replacement might make things worse, due to waterproofing and so on.

I wouldn’t make such a decision on your own; someone knowledgeable should be involved.

I would also bring in an expert for this. In my opinion, simply repainting won’t be enough.

The statement that damage to plaster and facade should be expected during the frame replacement is absolutely outrageous. It sounds as if you would just have to accept those damages. But that is their problem.

Routing out and then putting a strip over it is poor workmanship. The profile consists of multiple chambers. No one can know in advance how many of these chambers will be damaged or routed out. This creates a thermal bridge, even if a small one. The frame loses stability. When exposed to sunlight, stresses occur that can no longer be transferred through the actual profile. The frame must be removed and replaced with a new one.
As @11ant already mentioned, the question arises as to where the crack originates. If the crack appeared after the window was already installed, it likely indicates stresses that should not occur. Therefore, consulting an expert is advisable.

To me, the fact that the crack was initially concealed in this way borders on fraudulent concealment.

The concern is definitely justified, which is why I’m saying to get an expert involved. My expectation is that the seller will bring in one of their subcontractors who has fewer complaints on record than the one who originally did the installation here. But the second contractor will probably do it as a one-man operation again; the seller won’t hire a separate trained plasterer.
