Since the installer initially covered it up with paint. It only became clearly visible after we noticed the spot and cleaned it a bit. In my opinion, this crosses the line between minor rework done informally and outright dishonest behavior.

Yes, we have a 5-year warranty according to the building code. Replacing it is unfortunately not simple, as the window would likely have to be cut out, meaning the plaster and so on would need to be repaired afterward. That is not your concern, but I recommend having an expert document the condition before and after the replacement. Amateurs often manage to pull it off so easily that afterwards it’s like “successful operation, patient dead,” meaning the window itself looks perfect, but the reveal appears like it belongs to a training building for a special forces unit.

Yes, I see it the same way. Unfortunately, there is no willingness to acknowledge this from the installation company. It seems that only legal assistance will help in this case. This is a defect, especially since it has already been painted over; it must have occurred during installation.
If the usual approach doesn’t work, involve an expert.
Then it needs to be determined how the crack came about.
But usually, you wouldn’t only notice this a year later, would you? You should see it at the latest when cleaning the window.

But normally, wouldn’t you notice this much earlier? At the latest, when cleaning the window, it should be visible, right? Until handover of the house, the area was completely covered by the edge insulation strip. After moving in, we didn’t notice immediately because the crack was covered with paint.
After further objection, I have now received the following feedback:
Option 1: cut out the damaged area and then re-glue the section. This would be covered with trim, since otherwise the damage would still be visible.
Option 2: replace the entire window frame, although damage to the plaster and exterior area is to be expected.
The construction company prefers option 1. According to them, this would not cause any disadvantage for us.
However, we are concerned that the crack may continue to spread. But the damage would not be immediately visible since it is covered.
What do you think?
Where there is a crack, there is tension involved. No cosmetic fix can help with that. Damaged is damaged and can only be repaired by replacing the entire part. We are not talking about a scratch here.
