Hello everyone,

I want to keep it simple and ask if anyone has already looked into the topic of turf in enough detail to recommend a good and affordable supplier or online shop! My landscaping contractor is going to shape the garden in the next few days. The landscaper suggests I should consider sowing the lawn in March. However, if I feel like it, I could also lay turf in early September, right?

Water is not actually a scarce resource.
We live in an area with quite a lot of rainfall and collect water from roofs and terraces.
This water is then returned to the system through irrigation. The local municipalities appreciate the use of cisterns, and in some cases, they are already mandatory. During heavy rain, they help buffer the water inflow.
The lakes in this region are now well replenished again. Last year was drier.

Well, both of you are in Baden-Württemberg... here in the northeast, things look a bit different...

Be glad about that! But please don’t generalize... Look up "Dürremonitor ufz" to check other regions of the country. The situation looks different there.

Of course, there are dry areas. I have never denied that. The distribution is the problem.

We just installed soaker hoses for micro-irrigation in my mother-in-law’s vegetable garden. The water comes from a rain barrel, using an appropriate pump and a timer. I’m curious to see if it works.

If the area allows, I would divide it: one part lawn (preferably in partial shade) and irrigate that, and another part gravel garden or wooden terrace with selective planting to reduce the amount of water needed.

Micro-drip irrigation?
If yes, can that work?
I only know the "golf course" lawn from hotel resorts in very hot countries.
Weeks of 40°C (104°F) and more.
But there the irrigation ran for hours every evening.
Especially in one resort in Egypt, that was really impressively sustainable.
I have honestly never walked barefoot on such a lawn before. It felt like a carpet.
Really amazing...
