Hello,
I want to replace the siphon because it is now damaged. In the process, I noticed that something is wrong (see photo).
Does anyone have a similarly creative solution to do this better? The previously considered bottle trap probably won’t work.
This also explains why the water sometimes drains poorly.

Slightly frustrated regards

There are flat traps that should be sufficient. Will this be covered in any way? If so, you can use the flexible ones, but actually, the drain hole is too high.

For someone as clueless as me: What’s wrong with this?

Go to a well-stocked store. They have trap bends (Siphon round pieces) in various sizes. This allows you to build a shorter "U" shape, and the water should drain a bit better.

You don't know that; the basin can also be very low.

@hampshire The wall has 30 cm (12 inch) tiles, so I assume it’s a standard washbasin.

@Tassimat, water simply doesn’t flow uphill.

There’s no need for the water to flow uphill. When you pour water in, it drains away. That’s the basic principle of a siphon.

From hampshire’s response, I now understand that the trap is installed too high. The water doesn’t mind, but debris will have difficulty draining properly there.

-edit- If this were a rainwater drainage, a trap seal height of 100mm (4 inches) according to DIN 1986-100 would actually be correct.
