Hello everyone, we are about to start our house construction project near Heide in Dithmarschen and are considering possibly building a solid wood house. The question is which providers would be suitable for this. Maybe someone here in the forum has experience with local companies?

Of course, I have come across, for example, Fjorborg, but I believe they work with timber frame construction rather than solid wood, which is quite different in terms of quality. Besides that, from various people’s experiences, I have heard that local providers are often more reliable and offer better deals.

What is your opinion on this, and can you recommend some companies with whom you have had positive experiences in and around Heide?

What does "ggf." mean here? — I interpret it as not being strictly fixed on solid wood; to me, it sounds somewhat like wanting a “solid house for solid money,” so not a specific preference for wood, but rather for "solid construction" in general. The advantages of local builders are indeed the kind you would also find—often more frequently and widely—with masonry builders. So please clarify where you see yourself between belief, concerns, and conviction.

I think, since you probably already have a building plot, you should first clarify the floor plan, functions, and personal use; after that, you will see whether it will be a wooden house and which type of timber construction to choose.
A beautiful house where you feel comfortable can be built in many different ways, always with the option to use a lot of wood.

So, it should definitely be wood. Either a type of Swedish house or something along the lines of a polar life house. I still need to somehow convince my father-in-law, who is of the old school and firmly believes that a solid stone house is the only true option. I have now looked at Talishaus from Husum, but they apparently use wood frame construction. In my opinion, this has the most disadvantages compared to log houses or solid wood constructions because, for example, the walls are not double-boarded. One negative effect of this is that the house tends to be very noisy. That’s why I would actually prefer not to use wood framing. I assume these are also the typical prefab houses, where everything is delivered complete and assembled in a very short time. I would actually like something a bit more solid and am looking for a suitable builder for that. A friend recommended Honka, who apparently build throughout Germany. However, their prices are probably beyond my budget.

Honka has been around for a very long time. When I built in 1990, there was also a Honka construction site in town. Back then, there was a lot of chaos. The house is still standing, but I remember hearing quite often that the solid beams gradually developed significant cracks, which bothered the owner.

I have seen Polarlife before, but I think you might need to rethink what you mean by budget. There were some nice things there, though... oh dear.

Oh dear, that really means starting from scratch... what is a steam engine? By “verschalt” you probably mean boarded or sheathed; you consider the frame construction to be as flimsy as a raccoon’s belly; for you, a solid wood house is a log cabin that a man from the mountains (do those under 50 still know them?) just freshly cut from the forest builds on your lot. Yes, that’s how it was back in the imperial era, when the Ergo Group was still Hamburg Mannheimer. That would be neither eco-friendly nor sustainable, about as outdated as you can get, and you wouldn’t want to know the wall thicknesses required by today’s energy-saving regulations based on that method. Today’s solid wood construction has nothing to do with an alpine mountaineer’s log cabin (although you’re mistaken about Talishaus: they actually build something quite close to a classic log house in principle). And maybe you’ll consider masonry after all: your father-in-law was only wrong about the “only true” part. There are great timber house builders, but your building location is not ideal: the timber house expertise is concentrated in Bavaria, so for you that’s really far away from “local.”
