Hello everyone!
Four weeks ago, we planted and reseeded our lawn.

Unfortunately, the ENTIRE lawn is heavily overrun with weeds.

The grass doesn’t stand a chance to grow properly.

Last Saturday, I sprayed Roundup weed killer on the lawn. The weeds are slowly dying and turning yellow.

The grass that managed to grow is still standing strong.

What should I do next?

How can I remove the dead weeds within 1-2 weeks?

Can I simply use a scarifier (lawn dethatcher) to treat the lawn?

I want to overseed afterward.

How would you proceed?

First, roughly pull out the large weeds, then apply Compo weed killer, and afterwards fertilize if you haven’t done so yet.

For the future, mow at least once a week to encourage thick grass growth.

Unfortunately, I only have 200m2 (2,150 sq ft), but currently everyone who visits is impressed by how green it looks.

It’s growing densely and will get even better. Unfortunately, I still have other work to do on the house. Otherwise, I would try mowing twice a week.

Actually, I should have mowed again today, but I haven’t had time.

Your lawn looks really great! What are the benefits of mowing 1-2 times per week? Do you mow without a catcher so the clippings fall back onto the lawn?

It becomes denser, which is especially helpful during the growth phase.

So, mow without the catcher? Or does it not matter?

So, my mower can mulch, and I tried that last year. However, I felt it created a lot of grass thatch. That’s why I use a catcher basket, and the more often you mow, the more the grass spreads sideways.

@hampshire Actually, I sharpen the blades every 3-4 weeks. But it’s also possible that because I’m using a battery-powered mower, the rotational speed might be too low at the end, so it doesn’t cut as cleanly. You could use a cylinder mower / reel mower, but that might be a bit over the top.

Large garden with green lawn, trampoline and hydrangeas on the left, fire pit in a wooden frame on the right.

Since Robocop has been working, it has become well sealed, but unfortunately, it also distributes the annoying annuals.

I consider the use of biocides in private gardens comparable to smoking cigars in a child's room. It used to be common, but with today’s level of knowledge, it is really outdated.
Which fertilizer or approach would be an alternative?
