Hello, today a roofer friend visited us because we actually want to have the flying rafters and purlin ends covered.

We bought the house last August.

So now my question is, what can still be saved here?

2. What is the cost of replacing rafters and repairing the purlin ends?

We are thankful for any help.

The rafter and purlin ends are rotten.

... I consider that a rumor. I only see some worn-looking white paint with no indication of damage underneath. Normal paint aging after about thirty years, no big deal.

Yes, the roofer who was here said that the rafter is completely rotten, especially at the upper central purlin.

A roofer is not a carpenter. Bakers also sell sandwiches, including ones with ham, but that doesn’t make them butchers. Still, trust him if you have money to spare. When you have the entire roof replaced, reusing the existing roof tiles saves you hardly more than fifteen percent compared to using all new ones. Except for a weathered coating, that is.

If it was just about replacing the rafter, the entire roof shouldn't need to be redone.

What should I do now, what would you do?

Find a specialist who can explicitly confirm that the structure is rotten and will fall on your head soon.
