Hello,

from when is it safe to hang pictures on the walls in a new solid construction? I have heard that especially on the exterior walls, you should wait for two years. Is that true?
Our hygrometers always show the air is too dry. That’s why I have placed several plants around.
Is it useful to get a moisture meter? They are available for about 20€, but do these provide reliable readings?

Best regards and have a nice weekend!

So, I nailed pictures directly to the wall right as we moved in, and they are still straight. Why do you ask? Because of moisture behind it? Or some structural reasons? You’re installing your kitchen too, and you don’t wait 2 years before putting up the wall cabinets.

I first thought, maybe there’s something to it.
But yes, kitchen cabinet. Deal breaker.

Yes, because of residual moisture. Kitchen cabinets should also not be placed directly against the wall so that air can circulate there. At least, that’s what I’ve heard.
I’m not sure if that’s correct, which is why I’m asking.

Whenever I give my opinion on these topics, I always say I’m not a professional.
But I find it logical that air needs to circulate behind the cabinets.
On the other hand, I’ve never heard that you need to pay attention to circulation at the beginning and then move the cabinets closer to the wall after a few years.

Just think about how many people get custom-built wardrobes for niches in hallways or similar spots. A carpenter doesn’t come by every few days to take them apart piece by piece so air can circulate. That’s nonsense...
