We are still at the very beginning and have already purchased our plot of land. We are currently working on our first floor plans for our single-family house. How long does it usually take to obtain the building permit / planning permission? We want to build a turnkey house with a general contractor. How much time does a company typically need to provide us with a quote?

Seriously:
You have control over the planning duration yourself.
You are responsible for compiling the documents needed for the building permit / planning permission.
The building permit / planning permission takes between 2 and 10 weeks depending on the municipality. This can usually be easily clarified.

vanny27058 May 2020 14:26Purchased the plot in October 2019, roughly drafted plans, requested a quote (we had already contacted companies before and knew which one to choose for the construction), then went to the architect in December. By the time everything was finalized and clarified for the building permit / planning permission, it was February. Submitted the building permit application and received approval in April. Construction will begin next week. However, many building authorities require 6 months or more for approval. Hope this helps you a bit.

nordbayer8 May 2020 14:37It can be faster with a lot of luck... Got the plot in June, planning took until October because the general contractor’s architect was a bit slow and we kept requesting many changes to the floor plan ourselves, signed the contract in November, construction started in March, currently it looks like the house will be ready to move in by August. A standard solid construction turnkey house without a basement. Is this the norm? Probably not, judging by what you hear.

Thanks for the timeline. We just want to know approximately how long we should plan for this.Have you already read it?On our (municipal property):
02/2018 Approval for the plot
03/2018
03/2018 Start of site development
12/2018 Completion of the road
12/2018 Submission of documents (exempt from building permit / planning permission)
02/2019 Start of construction work
09/2019 Move-in
The general contractor was ready to start from January but could only begin once the boundary markers had been set.

We are starting construction on Wednesday and are really hoping to move in before Christmas. We are doing the flooring and painting ourselves.
