When I look at windows that I like, they don’t have a centered opening but rather a 1/3 to 2/3 ratio. I’ve seen this ratio both in windows with sill heights and in narrow windows (e.g., bathrooms). Does anyone have this? Is my estimated ratio correct? Since I would like to offset the frame from the sash to make the window divisions narrower, I would fix the glass on one side and use the other side to open – does that work? Any experience?

What window widths are you referring to? And maybe one or two pictures of what you like.

We also decided on the 2/3 // 1/3 division, but with a mullion and no fixed part. I found this option more visually appealing. This way, the narrower sash can be used for ventilation, and when you want to clean the window, it is also possible to open the larger sash.

For us, this choice was more or less coincidental, based on the architecture.

Moderne zweigeschossige Hausfassade mit schrägem Dach, großen Fenstern und rechts stehender Baum.

Moderne Villa mit schrägem Dach, langen Fenstern, Garage und Hangtreppen.

Thank you very much for the detailed reply. Apparently, I am not quite as experienced on the topic as you are – what exactly do you mean by “Stulp”? Have you already built this and, if so, do you have any real photos?

At the moment, everything is theoretical! Are there any measurements? Otherwise, it is really not valuable.

Of course, it is theoretical, as I will plan or have the window openings planned accordingly to ensure enough light from each side of the house depending on the weather. My main focus is purely on the style and feasibility of this type of window.
