Hello dear forum,

We have been thinking for weeks about which areas in the bathroom should be tiled but can’t find a solution. That’s why we are hoping for your help.

We want to tile as little as possible, but we have the problem that there is a window on the wall opposite the shower, and we don’t know how to tile around it without it looking awkward. Also, we are unsure how to tile around the bathtub. And for the wall under the large window in general, should we plaster it, tile halfway up, or something else? We just aren’t creative enough here.

At the washbasin, we would like to tile only halfway up, and behind the toilet, we want to tile just the wall behind it, also halfway up.

We would really appreciate any tips.

Best regards,
Ivonne

I really like the pattern on the outside of the bathtub

Agreed, I thought the same.

@Climbee: haha... I definitely didn’t think about that :-P
But how often do you think that will happen again?

Since there are so many supporters of tile minimalism here, I’m going to show the complete opposite.
I’m really into stone! And especially with the lighting, tiles in my opinion stand out better.

It’s me again

We have now chosen 75x75 cm (30x30 inches) tiles for the floor. The color is butter... so I’d say a beige-gray... quite light... We want to use the same tiles for the areas on the walls that will be tiled and also around the bathtub.

Do you think 75x75 cm (30x30 inches) tiles would look odd on the walls, and that we should rather go for 30x60 cm (12x24 inches) tiles there? And do you think it will look good if we use the same tiles everywhere? In the shower and around the toilet, we’ll partially use a decorative tile, and our vanity cabinet is black with a brown countertop.

We were thinking of using the decorative tile on the shower back wall and the wall with the niche — basically the parts of the “T” — and then doing the large wall and the others like the floor. What do you think about that? My husband would like the large wall and the back wall to have the decorative tiles, but I think that would be too overpowering.

But how many times will that actually happen to you?

Really beautiful!
How did you handle the fixtures and the pipes? It looks like you didn’t use a drywall or plasterboard false wall.

I know a thousand arguments against having a toilet in the main bathroom, but apart from the (minor) additional costs, I can't think of a single reason in favor of it.
That’s why I’ve been wondering for years why this is still the case.

For me, a toilet definitely belongs in the bathroom; I don’t see why I should do without it. I would never walk half-naked across the hallway to use the toilet, and what if it’s occupied? Go back to the bathroom and get dressed again? Or the bathroom is then occupied again, and now you’re stuck waiting outside. Where else would you put things like a few lint particles or hairs, makeup remover pads, or the contents of a cleaning bucket? After showering, you can also use the toilet whenever you want and take your time getting dressed or ready.

May I ask what kind of window sills those are?
