Hello everyone,
I visited a landscaping company today, and they told me about separation stations. Apparently, since 2021 it is only allowed to water gardens with a separation station when building new properties.
Until now, I knew that, for example, outdoor taps can be connected directly to the water supply near a toilet or sink.
What are your thoughts on this?
I don’t like the separation station (with a pump): electricity costs, maintenance...

What is a separation station? What does it do? What kind of pump is it?

Do you mean well water directly into the toilet? That has never been allowed – only with two separate pipes and a water meter.

@immermehr You probably mean a backflow preventer. This device stops water from flowing back into the supply line and contaminating the fresh water. It has been required by regulations for a long time. There are also versions available mainly without a pump. Just search for "backflow preventer outdoor tap." It is standard and should always be installed when a plumbing company has done the work.

This device prevents water from flowing back into the supply line and contaminating the potable water.
It has been mandatory for quite some time. There are also versions available (mainly) without a pump.
Just search for “backflow preventer external tap.”

Yes, that’s what I mean.
Separation station: e.g. Sigura 9
This concerns DIN 1717.
As I understand it, it is recommended that the pipe for the frost-proof external tap (for watering plants) is connected directly at the toilet tank connection. The reason is that water there is always in circulation.
Backflow preventer: thanks for the information. The landscaping company showed me this option. In my case, I have 3 external taps – do I need 3 backflow preventers?
Can I combine all 3 external taps into a single pipe (in the basement) and use just one backflow preventer there?

1 Divider for the external pipes. From there, you branch off the individual taps.
With self-draining taps, you won’t have any problems with freezing. Otherwise, install a tap in the basement as well. Before winter, turn off the outside taps and the one in the basement (first shut off the water supply) and drain the system this way.
You connect to your regular water line. The toilet plumbing doesn’t matter...

What kind of tank connection WC?
Outdoor taps usually have a vent or backflow preventer installed. This is a standard potable water installation (see rick2018).
So once again, what kind of installation are you referring to?
