Hello everyone,
I am finally planning to build our own house with my family. I don’t want to do without a smart system and have already done some research.
Loxone is basically off the table for me because it mainly relies on its proprietary system and products.
Of course, I have repeatedly come back to KNX (as here in the forum as well). However, I am not entirely happy with it because I don’t want to have to call a programmer every time I want to make a change; I also don’t really want to buy the ETS license. Additionally, I want to integrate and network fingerprint scanners, Sonos, and a heat pump, but I haven’t fully figured out how to do this with KNX.
The house basically has two floors with an open-plan kitchen/living area, entrance hall, utility room, bathrooms, children’s rooms, bedroom, garden, and so on.
The following systems should be connected:
- Lighting (some dimmable)
- External blinds / weather station
- Underfloor heating
- Heat pump
- Music system (Sonos)
- Fingerprint access
- Video intercom
- Some switched power outlets
- Photovoltaic system
Since I am technically fairly knowledgeable, I want to be able to manage, adjust, and optimize my system myself in the end.
Does anyone have good input here? Or already experience with Loxone, KNX, or others?
Thanks and best regards,
Stefan

Is there actually a reasonable and affordable solution for detecting glass breakage in windows?
We will have two reed switches on every window and patio door. However, as I understand it, these probably won’t trigger if the glass is broken, right?
Assuming you want to include that feature, how would you go about it?

We will have two reed switches on each window/window door. But as far as I understand, they wouldn’t trigger if the glass is shattered, right?
Assuming someone wanted to integrate that, how would it be done? Well, I find the whole topic with the reed switches really expensive. I mean, my window installer wants around €60 net per sensor, and the binary inputs (for 8 windows) for the KNX system cost about €250 net as well. Selectively, it might make sense, but adding it to all windows would be quite costly.

We tend to rationalize it by saying the cost blends into the high price of the windows anyway. Since they are installed by the window manufacturer, they are there whether we use them or not... Better than retrofitting later...Tarnari schrieb:

Better than retrofitting... That’s true, yes..
Is there a subforum where one can discuss the concept? I would like to join the discussion regarding Gira or BJ.

These devices are stuck to a corner of the window glass and then connected to a binary input. My parents already had something like this on an ABB alarm system in their house 35 years ago. A quick search online shows you can find these for about 15 euros.
