Hi,

I am looking at a house (timber frame construction) built in 2011 with a fresh air heating system (air-to-air heat pump + photovoltaic), as well as a wood stove. My expertise in this area is still limited, so I am curious why there is also an electric heater in the bathroom, which seems to have been retrofitted. Does this indicate any kind of problem or is it normal?

Thank you.

Could you please share a photo of your system?

Is it possible that the radiator is electric with a heating cartridge?

Electric towel warmers in the bathroom are quite common. I would generally be more concerned about the heating system, as an air-to-air heat pump is usually not very efficient and can be expensive to operate. Or is this a passive house?

Ask to see the electricity bills from the past few years.

Hello all three,

I haven’t been on site yet and only saw the offer earlier today, so I wanted to read up on it in advance.

White panel radiator on a white living room wall, clothes hanging on the left.

- Timber frame construction with external thermal insulation composite system

- Air-to-air heat pump; fresh air heating (radiators in bathroom and toilet; complete air exchange every two hours, filtered)

- Hot water storage tank 295 liters (78 gallons)

- Photovoltaic system (generation capacity 7.35 kWp + feed-in contract)

- Water softening system

- Cistern 4,000 liters (1,057 gallons) for garden irrigation

The heat pump operating costs are expected to be around €100. They are relying entirely on electricity for energy supply… which probably won’t be cost-effective in the long term?

The cost of the heat pump is supposed to be around €100 (~$110).

As I said, have them show you the electricity bill, everything else is just speculation.
