Hello,

Is it possible to use the existing heating oil tank as a diesel tank? Is a permit/planning permission required? And is it possible to get approval? The heating oil tank is already installed flood-proof in a flood-prone area. Thank you.

Also take a look at TRGS 510. Assume that you will not receive a building permit / planning permission (which you need).

Putting aside the question of practicality, why should different regulations apply here than for heating oil? It’s essentially the same, except that diesel is not dyed.

Ask a farmer how this is typically handled. They also have their own fuel stations for their vehicle fleet.

Oh, by the way, I just remembered that you need a waterproof concrete base where you tap. So, under your car / at the filling point, you still have to carry out significant earthworks.

What savings are you expecting if you still have to install the filling point (how much does that cost? Around €1,000 (about $1,100) or more for private use) and the "fuel station area" (several thousand euros) and partly have to leave it unused for a while?

Well, with a 20-cent difference, you’re roughly breaking even at 6,000 liters (about 1,585 gallons). So it’s totally worth it.
Unless the gas station costs a bit over a thousand...

Diesel does not burn. It does not explode either. You could even use it to extinguish a burning match.

Diesel and light heating oil only differ in taxation and coloring.

Using the tank is technically not an issue or a safety risk.
