Hello friends,

Our house construction is in full swing.
We are building two stories plus an attic. The knee wall is at 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in).
The attic is partly above the bedroom and partly above the children’s room. Our part will probably be used for storage, while the section above the children’s room is planned to become an additional room for the children as they get older.
We want to install oak parquet flooring throughout the house, and in our vision, this should also be the case in the attic.
Right now, the ceiling of the second floor will not be made of concrete but constructed from wood.
Now everyone says that because of impact noise in the attic, we should use carpet instead of parquet.
We really hate carpets.
Do you have any ideas on how we could lay parquet on a wooden floor in the attic without hearing every step upstairs in the rooms below?

A wooden ceiling is not just a wooden ceiling – what type of ceiling is planned? A sensible design with a structural ceiling load, contrary to common rumors that only mass helps, can actually be quite soundproof.

I need to clarify that...

Under our bedroom, we have the practice (future granny flat).
We will install a suspended ceiling and fit a Knauf insulation board. This should minimize sound transmission.
I would not want to give up the wooden floor.

So, the ceiling structure will consist of approximately 25cm (10 inches) collar beams, with about 3cm (1 inch) OSB boards on top. The ceiling will be dropped about 15cm (6 inches) below the collar beams.

This should provide quite a few options to install something that prevents a parquet floor on the OSB boards from creating noise for the rooms below, right?
