ᐅ Outdoor Area – Neighbor Already Has a Wall

Hello,
we plan to start work on our large outdoor area this year.
We are already in talks with a landscaper and aim to begin in May.

Our neighbors have already bordered their property with a retaining wall made of concrete blocks. See picture!
Their outdoor area is fully built up and finished, and has been for some time.

Now we wonder if we can simply work against the neighbors’ wall—that is, level the ground normally and sow grass? Or do we definitely need to clarify this with them first? What issues could arise?
The neighbors are friendly, and we will definitely discuss this with them before starting, but we wanted to ask in advance if anyone here has experience with this. What might they demand in a worst-case scenario?

Talk to him, but basically you can build right up to the wall. However, as a tip, I recommend creating an edge strip along the wall.

If you have checked that the wall is actually on his property and not on yours, I would personally plant a hedge made of mixed shrubs anyway... so plan it a bit wider, don’t plant it directly next to the wall, and let it grow a bit taller so you have some privacy.

We have definitely thought about privacy screening, but for now, everything will be done temporarily with just grass. The boundary markers for our property are still there; the wall is definitely on his property.

The wall is ideal for anchoring to. It looks like exposed concrete blocks.
